 Recruitment and Selection of Early Years Staff

This session will assist management committee members and setting staff who have responsibility for recruitment.  Participants will be introduced to the main recruitment procedures including shortlisting, interviews and other selection processes.  This course is suitable for all groups.  Please note that the course is an overview and an introduction, it therefore may not be suitable for staff and committee members who already have extensive recruitment experience e.g. HR staff.

 Support and Supervision of Early Years Staff

Support, Supervision and Appraisal training will assist committee members, leaders and managers in early years’ settings to recognise the importance and value of good induction, supervision and appraisal processes for staff members in line with Minimum Standard requirements.  Although this course is suitable for all settings staff/committee members with a lot of experience of managing staff (e.g. HR staff) may find it too basic for their needs.

Supporting Children With Special Educational Needs

This programme will focus on support for pre-school children with Special Educational Needs. This training will consist of three sessions suitable for all staff working in preschool settings.

  • Session 1

    The Environment

    Explores the importance and the need for an Inclusive Environment for all children particularly those with additional needs and impact of the Environment on children's learning, it also highlights the importance of role of the adult providing visual communication strategies to support children understand the daily routine and engage best in their environment. 

  • Session 2

    Working in Partnership with Parents

    This session explores the importance of working in partnership with parents and carers, practical strategies in which parents can be supported through the process of early identification regarding feelings, fears and anxieties, including signposting and support from other agencies.

  • Session 3

    The SEN framework and Code Of Practice

    Focuses on the updated SEN Framework which explores strategies to support additional needs and identification, including the statementing and assessment process, the development of Personal Learning Plans focused on children’s strengths and areas for support, and practical support strategies to bring about improvement.

Language and Communications Development Programme

This programme will enhance practitioners’ knowledge and skill base when supporting young children’s language and communication skills.

The aim of this Programme will be to:

  • Assist practitioners to gain an understanding of language and communication stages in a practical manner

  • To identify the link from information building to planning provision for individual children

  • To explore recording tools to build language and communication skills in young children

Learning outcomes are:

  • To implement language and communication development to improve knowledge, practice and record keeping.

  • To identify aspects for whole staff implementation

  • To implement planning for progression
