GREENCODE DAY – Early Years Multiplier Event
On Wednesday 11 June 2025, Early Years – the organisation for young children – hosted a successful celebration event at the Four Seasons Hotel, Monaghan ROI alongside National Childcare Network to raise awareness of the International Day of Play.
The focus of the day was to present the published Project Results of the Erasmus+ GREENCODE Project. The event marked a significant milestone in early childhood environmental education, bringing together over 40 ECE educators and stakeholders to share the outcomes and the impacts of this 2-year Erasmus+ project.

The GREENCODE Project, has focused on developing resources and innovative practices to support young children and preschool educators in learning about sustainability, climate action, and environmentally responsible behaviours with the support of developmentally appropriate educational robotics. These resources include:
Led by the UNIVERSITY OF LATVIA, the project consists of seven European partners
SCHOOL OF ROBOTICS Italy
UNIVERSITY OF MANNHEIM Germany
EARLY YEARS NI/Ireland
POLYTECHNİC INSTİTUTE OF VİSEU Portugal
MELLIS ED TECH Turkey
UNIVERSITY OF RIJEKA Croatia
GREENCODE has explored how early years settings can lead the way in embedding green habits in the preschool years.
The celebration at the Four Seasons Hotel served not only as a showcase of the project’s achievements but also as a platform for discussion, reflection, and sustainability. Attendees had the opportunity to explore the project’s results, including interactive teaching materials, inquiry-based activity guides, and engaging video content designed specifically for early years educators and children.

Throughout the day, participants engaged in meaningful conversations and discussions about the importance of fostering environmental awareness in young children. There was particular interest in how the GREENCODE materials could add value to existing preschool practices with participants reflecting on how the GREENCODE project resources could influence their own curriculum particularly in the fields of sustainability and ecofriendly habits.
The event concluded with a commitment from all participants to begin to implement the learning from the project and try out the GREENCODE activities and materials so that children will understand the importance for caring for the planet and recognise the roles they can play in protecting the world around them.
“The GREENCODE Project has given us the tools, language, and confidence to talk to children about the environment in ways that are hopeful, empowering, and rooted in their everyday lives.”
The legacy of this work will continue to shape how young children experience and understand their role in caring for the planet—today, and into the future.
