Conflicts of Interest
Conflicts of interest are a normal part of governance, particularly in community based early years settings where committee members are often parents, relatives or staff or have other connections to the setting.
A conflict of interest arises when a committee member’s personal interest could influence, or be seen to influence, their ability to make decisions in the best interests of the setting. Having a conflict of interest is not a problem in itself. The key is recognising, declaring it and managing it appropriately.
