The Sesame Tree television series consists of 20 fifteen minute episodes which present a range of stimulating and enjoyable stories and live action films (LAFs) that are firmly embedded in a Northern Ireland context. The format of each show sees Potto and Hilda realising that they have a problem to resolve. Then young children from Northern Ireland pose a related question to the Sesame Tree through the Big Whizzing Machine. Potto, Hilda and their friends immediately set about answering the question and in doing so, solve their own problem. They learn from the experiences of children elsewhere in the world, the experiences of puppet friends and relatives, and crucially through the experiences of children from Northern Ireland, who are featured in local LAFs. These documentaries are presented through children’s eyes and focus on educational and engaging topics. The themes drawn from the LAFs form the core of these activities.
