Rural Respecting Difference Programme

Published on: 21/06/2018

The Rural Development Council (RDC), working in partnership with Early and the National Childhood Network, would like to take this opportunity to introduce you to the Rural Respecting Difference Programme.  This project is supported by the European Union’s PEACE IV Programme, managed by the Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB).

The Rural Respecting Difference Programme is aimed at young children from the 2 to 12 age group, currently attending PSEP pre-school, daycare and after school facilities across rural* Northern Ireland and the 6 border counties of Ireland, who are not (either currently or previously) benefiting from any other shared education programme.

The Rural Respecting Difference Programme is based on the Early Years Media Initiative for Children (MIFC)TM. It is delivered via a number of engaging, innovative and fun based teaching methods. It combines a series of media messages using specially created persona puppets.  Each puppet has been developed with its own identify and background, life experiences etc.  The use of the puppets is seen as offering a non-threatening, effective and child friendly way to develop emotional literacy and empower young children to deal with concepts of bullying, discrimination and cultural difference.

The programme will provide support to staff/leaders, parents/carers and management committees in delivering this Programme within your own setting. All participants receive a free comprehensive resource pack with a broad range of resources, and potential to participate in a shared activity with other settings during the Programme.

The attached information leaflet provides more information on the Programme.  If you are interested, please come along to our information event:
