Early Years – the organisation for young children warmly welcomes the visiting 2018 Service Learning group of students and lecturers from Wheelock College, Boston.
This visit is now an annual occurrence in the Early Years calendar. It is the thirteenth year that Wheelock College have engaged in an International Service Learning Study visit to Northern Ireland to experience high quality, evidence-informed early childhood services for young children, their families and communities and peacebuilding efforts at early childhood level.
Participants from the college experience a week long programme of placements, observations, training seminars, lectures and visits to locations of historic and cultural significance. Placements occur across a range of early childhood development and restorative justice settings and programmes and are part of student assignments where they will describe their experience of peacebuilding and early years education and care in Northern Ireland.
Pauline Walmsley, Early Years Deputy Chief Executive, commented "This is the thirteenth year that the Service Learning Group from this prestigious college have come to see the distinctive and world leading practices being employed in early childhood care and education settings across Northern Ireland.
A particular focus for the group will be the ongoing work of the 'Media Initiative for Children - Respecting Difference' programme designed by Early Years to promote positive attitudes to physical, social and cultural differences amongst young children, practitioners and parents.
We hope that the group has an enjoyable week of visits, placements and other learning opportunities!”
