Business Development Support

The Business Development Adviser position in Early Years is funded by the Department of Education. The overall strategic aim of this project is to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of pre-school providers by offering business advice, support and relevant training to local management groups.

Newry & Mourne Area

The part-time project worker covers Newry & Mourne, an area from Kilkeel to Crossmaglen. The service is available to both established providers and those planning a new service whether; carer and toddler, community or privately run. Support and advice ranges from informing groups on changes in legislation and funding, to issues of human resource and financial management. To develop the skills base of management groups a variety of training events have been planned for the autumn and winter term. Topics include; marketing, book keeping, recruitment and selection, fund raising, etc. Then in the spring term a series of events will celebrate the excellent work of management committee volunteers.

Belfast Business Area

In Belfast a similar project works directly with groups and management committees from new and established childcare providers. Training will be offered to childcare service managers in the voluntary, private and social economy sectors. Topics covered will include updates to POCVA legislation, effective fund raising, business planning, marketing, recruitment and selection and financial management. Early Years will be delivering the Pathfinder Programme for Invest N.I. to assist female entrepreneurs interested in beginning childcare businesses.

Pathfinder Programme

The next Pathfinder Programme will be held at the Acorn Business Centre, 2 Riada Avenue, Ballymoney.

Every Wednesday beginning 23rd January 2008 for 7 weeks from 5:00pm – 8:00pm
